Summer Academic Reading & Writing Enrichment (G2-3)
Course Objectives
This course supports the development of early independent reading and narrative writing skills through a relatable, realistic novel.
Students will engage in character exploration, story reflection, and personal writing connections that help them grow as both readers and writers.
By the end of the course, students will be able to:

Summarize chapters and identify main ideas

Compare characters using text evidence

Write personal narratives inspired by the novel

Complete a structured essay with introduction, body, and conclusion
Weekly Class Structure
Each one-hour session includes a mix of direct instruction, guided practice, and personal sharing. The course also promotes light at-home reflection to strengthen comprehension and creativity. Weekly sessions include:

Read-aloud & discussion of key scenes
Exploring characters, emotions, and turning points -
Mini writing lesson
Structuring ideas clearly and expanding on personal experiences -
Writing and response time
Practicing sentence expansion, paragraph flow, and revision -
Optional take-home prompt
For building connections between reading and real-life
Final Project & Wrap-Up (Week 8)
In the final week, students will apply their learning in a well-organized personal essay, inspired by moments from the novel and their own life. They will:

Revise and present their writing to peers

Build confidence in storytelling and self-expression
