(G1–3) Summer Thematic Academic Writing—Space Explorers

Thematic Focus

 

Space Explorers
An interdisciplinary journey through space combining science, reading comprehension, and creative writing, designed to fuel curiosity and imagination in young learners.

 

Course Objectives

 

This course invites students to explore space while developing early academic writing and critical thinking. Students will:

  • Understand both narrative and informational texts

  • Practice descriptive and explanatory writing

  • Illustrate and label space-related observations and ideas

  • Build vocabulary related to planets, astronauts, rockets, and space missions

 

Weekly Class Structure

 

Each class includes interactive, age-appropriate lessons that balance science facts with imagination. Sessions include:

  • Read-alouds and group discussion (fiction & nonfiction books)

  • Mini writing tasks (descriptive, informative, or question-based)

  • Creative project time (e.g., draw your own planet or build a space suit)

  • Optional home connections (moon journals, backyard stargazing, etc.)

 

Final Project & Wrap-Up

 

Students will complete a Space Explorer Logbook, which may include:

  • Planet facts and illustrations

  • Space mission plans and diagrams

  • A short creative story (e.g., “If I visited Saturn...”)

Parents will receive:

  • A personalized progress summary

  • A Certificate of Completion

  • Optional ideas for continued reading and science exploration

Academic Writing for the Logic Stage Information
  • Monday 6:30-7:30PM 

       (6/2,6/9,6/16,6/23,7/7,7/14,7/21,7/28)

  • 8 Session

  • Class meets once per week for  60 minutes.

  • Class cap: 6 students.

  • Designed for grades 1-3.

  • Taught by Ms.Allison

Course Materials

  • ✏️ Pencils (sharpened, with erasers)

  • 🖍️ Colored pencils or markers (for brainstorming or illustrating)

  • 📒 Wide-ruled composition notebook (for writing assignments and drafts)

  • 📖 Mini booklet or stapled blank pages (for creating personal storybooks or writing journals)

  • 📄 Printer paper or A4 paper
