Summer Academic Reading & Writing Enrichment  (K-G1)

Course Objectives

 

This course helps students build foundational reading comprehension and writing skills through a warm, beautifully illustrated picture book.
Students will learn to identify story elements, describe events using complete sentences, and begin writing simple, structured stories independently.

 

 

Weekly Class Structure

 

Although this course meets only once per week for one hour, it encourages daily engagement and gradual progression supported by optional at-home activities. Each session includes:

  • Teacher-guided picture book reading & discussion
    Encourages interactive reading and comprehension of the story

  • Writing fundamentals practice
    Using complete sentences to describe events, retell scenes, and express feelings

  • Interactive activities and project time
    Including sequencing images, story cards, and group sharing

  • Optional light homework
    Such as home read-alouds or parent-child conversations to reinforce learning

  • Positive feedback system
    Encouraging comments and weekly updates to promote confidence and participation

 

 

Final Project & Wrap-Up (Week 8)

 

In the final week, students will complete a simple yet meaningful personal story writing and presentation project, guided by the teacher. Students will:

  • Write an original story with a clear beginning, middle, and end

  • Share their work in a relaxed class setting to build confidence and speaking skills

Parents will receive the following:

  • A personalized progress note, highlighting the student’s strengths and development

  • A Certificate of Completion

  • If appropriate, recommendations for future learning pathways

  • 8 Session

  • Class meets once per week for 60 minutes.

  • Class cap: 6 students.

  • Designed for grades K-1.

  • 📖 Mini book or blank booklet
    (for writing simple sentences and drawing their own illustrations)

  • 📄 Printer paper or A4 paper
